A Gift for RememberingTM
Artist's Comment: though, from my own interest in gardening, I debated whether this was also a sport or even inspiration, i finally decided occupations was the best soil for this work :-)
gardening is something i came to relatively late, in my mid 40's, having thought it was too beyond me to create things of beauty that lived
but as my workings in my arts continued to deepen over the years, i found working with the soil and plants to be more satisfying (if sometimes frustrating :-) than i'd hoped for
the connection to nature, always there, was more fully realized
there's a sense of "letting and learning" working with nature - then of realizing, as part of nature, that we're really working with ourselves
many, most really, of my impressionist images are a delving into translating that "letting and learning" with nature in oil soluble paint

"the act of giving your thoughts to one you love can be as important as
the thought itself" - adan
Gardening
Gladiolus, begonias, roses.
Crepe myrtles, oaks and cedars.
Loosening the earth.
Adding mulch and food and water.
Gently tapping down seeds.
Snipping early blooms
for the table tops inside.
Letting robins share the foliage
with the humming birds and kittens.
Watching the red-green curls
of first growth extend, expand,
and fill the lawn with filtered light.
Soiled gloves warm and moist
from freshly sprinkled ground.
Sharp implements
to carve a space for bulbs.
Trails of growth everywhere you
guide them to,
and sometimes where you’d
rather they slow down a bit.
But that’s all right.
The garden only needs your guidance,
not control, to flourish.
